Bonden's Age
Just a few comments regarding Bonden's probable age: I don't think the historical timeline exactly fits Bonden's age at his first appearance in the Canon; although, the evidence may be somewhat contradictory. Clearly, of course, he wasn't toward the 7 end of the probable historically based scale, and 17 might fit with Jack's decision to offer to make hom a midshipman.
