A barque is a sailing vessel with at least three masts, at least two of its foreward-most masts being square-rigged but its aftermost masts fore-and-aft rigged. The typical barque is a three masted vessel, with square-sails only on the fore- and main-masts, effectively a ship with no mizzen top- or topgallant sail. There have been barques of four and five and even more masts, some with only the aftermost mast fore-and-aft rigged, some with only the foreward two masts square-rigged.
