Jack Aubrey's coat of arms is described heraldically as: Azure, three sheep's heads erased, proper (The Thirteen Gun Salute, p. 11 or p. 4147) with the honorable augmentation of two Moor's heads, proper (Desolation Island, p. 14 or p. 1578). The "honorable augmentation" of the two Moor's heads was, of course, an honor bestowed upon Jack Aubrey for his service during the Mauritius campaign, the Royal Herald not being particluarly aware of the racial type of natives of the islands of Mauritius and La Renuion, which Jack added to "his grateful sovereign's crown", Desolation Island, loc cit.
