Boatswain

The boatswain familiarly known as the Bosun or Bo'sun is a warrant or petty officer in charge of the ship's cordage, anchors, and boats. He also supervised the on deck crew, often communicating with a Bosun's whistle, knotted rope, or swift kick. See Royal Navy ranks
