History
General Aubrey has embarrassed his son on numerous occasions with his politics. He is usually in opposition to the Government whether as a Tory or as a Radical and often quotes his son when criticising the government's naval policies. The General remarries after Jack's mother dies, and eventually provides Jack with a half brother, Philip. In The Reverse of the Medal, the General and his associates buy heavily into stocks that Aubrey unwittingly recommends to them, causing Jack Aubrey to be tried for stock fraud and briefly stripped of his rank in the Navy.
