Meaning: An abdominal organ which forms lymphocytes, produces antibodies, helps to destroy worn-out blood cells and filters bacteria and foreign particles from the blood. It was formerly regarded as the seat of certain emotions, including malice, spite, bad temper, melancholy, low spirits, whim or caprice.
