Current revision as of 06:20, 13 November 2007

Citation: zeta
Language: Greek
References: The Thirteen-Gun Salute, page 273
Meaning: the sixth letter of the Greek alphabet, which sounds and looks like English Z

Notes:

Aubrey means he started to learn the alphabet, which at first proceeds in a way parallel to the English alphabet: alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon — but then zeta. Many a neophyte Greek scholar has stopped at this point, confused, though glad, that the Greek alphabet seems so very short.
