To 'mouse' an item is to wrap small-stuff around it. The most common example would be the mousing of a hook in which small-stuff is tied across the opening of the hook to prevent the item or line from slipping out if gravity should briefly cease to hold it in place. (Naval hooks curve inward and flare outward, producing a specific crotch into which the mousing slides.) Aubrey notes that, “those horses wanted mousing.”[1]
