I wonder if it is appropriate to call Wray a sexual deviant. To be accurate it would require O'Brian to say or suggest this aspect by some behaviour. By the standards of the time , brothels or S&M would not be deviant, e.g. the Marquis of Sade. As for today, if it is relevant, Max Mosley's hijinks would suggest the modern UK is quite tolerant.
