My vague impression is that POB gave the older Melville a second term which he didn't have in actuality. There were five other 1st Lords between Henry and Robert.

:: OK that's clear as mud!  :-)  One of us will need to go through the "what links here" for the Lord Melville disambig and figure out which Lord Melville it's supposed to be and fix accordingly.  --[[User:LadyShelley|LadyShelley]] 18:42, 5 May 2008 (BST)

All the Lord Melville's

Adam, am I reading the section correctly about father Henry and brother Robert in that they were both Lord Melville at some point (Robert inherited Henry's title) or was Henry always Lord and Robert always Viscount? I need to know if there should be a disambig page for the two of them if they were both Lord Melville. --LadyShelley 15:09, 5 May 2008 (BST)

I looked it up in Wikipedia and I found that they were both Viscount Melville but a viscount is usually addressed as My Lord and "Lord Melville" not "Viscount Melville" when being spoken to or about.
Henry was 1st Lord of the Admiralty from 1804-1805 (only) and he died in 1811 and his son Robert inherited the title. Robert was 1st Lord of the Admiralty from 1812 -1827 and again from 1828-1830 after a brief interruption when the Duke of Clarence was 1st Lord in 1827.
My vague impression is that POB gave the older Melville a second term which he didn't have in actuality. There were five other 1st Lords between Henry and Robert.
I suggest that we make Lord Melville a disambig to them but their pages should be Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville and Robert Dundas, 2nd Viscount Melville which would be the correct style. Aquinas 15:59, 5 May 2008 (BST)
