Creative Commons Licensed Content

Except where otherwise noted, all text, images, or other materials on WikiPOBia are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.0/) and, by making submissions to WikiPOBia, contributors grant a license to use the submitted text, images or other materials under the terms of this license. All contributions remain the property of their creators but may be freely copied, distributed or modified under the terms of this Creative Commons license. The full language and terms of the license are available at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.0/legalcode . A copyright notice similar to the following, Copyright Notice: Except where otherwise specified, the content of this site is available under the termsof the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.0/) (see Copyrights for details). appears at the bottom of most pages on WikiPOBia and, in the absence of any other notices preceding it on that page, the content is available under the terms indicated in this notice. For any page where no copyright notice appears, you may assume that it is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 License. For content licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 License used by WikiPOBia you are free to copy, distribute, display, or perform the work, or to make derivative works under the following conditions:

Attribution: You must give the original author(s) credit.
Noncommercial: You may not use the work for commercial purposes.
Share Alike: If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under an identical license.
For any reuse or distribution, you must make clear to others the license terms of this work.
Any of these conditions can be waived if you get permission from the copyright holder(s).

To comply with the Attribution requirements of this license for use outside of WikiPOBia, you should include the list of contributors from the Credits page for the article (accessible by clicking on the others link above the default Copyright Notice, or, if the article is the work of a single author, the author's name will appear in the Last Modified notice, also above the default Copyright Notice) and a link or URL to the article on WikiPOBia.

To obtain a waiver of any of the license conditions, you will need the consent of all of the contributors to the article or, if you use an older version, all of the contributors to the version you use.

Public Domain Content

Contributors may submit content to WikiPOBia from public domain sources. These materials should be labeled as described below and contributors to WikiPOBia should follow these procedures to indicate content that is not of their creation but is used without prior licensing restrictions.

Articles

Text that comes from the public domain should be labeled with the following statement of origin:

This article is from the Public Domain. You may use the original version (http://wikipobia.hmssurprise.org//index.php?title=Copyrights&action=history) of this article without restriction. Revisions to this article are available under the terms of the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 2.0 License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.0/) (see Copyrights for details).

Contributors should insert this statement following the text of the article by including the public domain notice template at the end of the article. This can be done by simply adding, Template:Public domain notice after the text of the article.

Images

Images from the public domain should be labeled with the following statement of origin:

This image is from the Public Domain. You may use the original version (http://wikipobia.hmssurprise.org//index.php?title=Copyrights&action=history) of this image without restriction. Revisions to this image are available under the terms of the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 2.0 License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.0/) (see Copyrights for details).

Contributors should insert this statement following the text of the image description by including the public domain notice template at the end of the description. This can be done by simply adding, Template:Public domain notice after the text of the description.

Fair Use Content

Since the purpose of WikiPOBia is "to provide a source of information and analysis intended to increase readers' understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of O'Brian's works and worlds," it is necessary that some material from his novels and other published works be used under the fair use exceptions of copyright law in order to provide a basis for commentary.

Text Citations

As a general rule, contributors should cite just enough text to illustrate the point being made and no more. Quoting long passages of text should be avoided where possible and citations should be clearly identified as such, and, for quotations of more than a few words, should be separated from the discussion text and formatted as or in a manner similar to the following example:

The music-room in the Governor's House at Port Mahon,
a tall, handsome, pillared octagon, was filled with the
triumphant first movement of Locatelli's C major quartet.'
— Master and Commander, Page 1, Paragraph 1

All citations should clearly identify the work the text is from and provide additional information that will allow the reader to easily locate the cited text if they wish to better place the citation in context.

Image Citations

Contributors who wish to submit copyrighted images to be used under the fair use provisions of copyright law may do so, provided their use of these images does in fact constitute fair use. In cases where the use of the image is legitimate under fair use, contributors should clearly identify the creator of the image on the image description page and add the following notice:

This image is used under the Fair Use provisions of United States Code: Title 17, Section 107 and is not available for use under the terms of the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 2.0 License that applies to other content on this site (see Copyrights for details).

Contributors should insert this notice following the text of the image description by including the fair use notice template at the end of the description. This can be done by simply adding, Template:Fair use notice after the text of the description.

Contributors should only use images labeled with this notice in articles related to the image itself and should not use them to simply decorate pages since such use may not fall under the fair use exception of copyright law. Use of these images outside of WikiPOBia for other purposes may not constitute fair use and could be in violation of copyright law.

Content Under Other Licenses

WikiPOBia reserves the right to use material licensed to the public under terms other than the Creative Commons license that covers other material in WikiPOBia. All such material will be clearly labeled and the license and terms under which it is included clearly identified. The inclusion of material under licenses other than the Creative Commons license is at the discretion of, and requires the approval of, the administrators of WikiPOBia.

Contributors may not submit material under licenses other than the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 License described earlier in this article without approval of the administrators. Contributor submissions marked as being under another license without prior approval from the administrators will have such notices removed or the entire submission permanently deleted, at the discretion of the administrators.

GNU Free Documentation Licensed Content

Since the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 License, which all contributor submissions to WikiPOBia are made under, and the GNU Free Documentation License (FDL) have incompatible terms, contributors may not submit FDL licensed material to WikiPOBia, nor may Creative Commons licensed material from WikiPOBia be used on other sites where content is submitted under the FDL. The licensing terms of articles, images and other content are established at the time of submission by the copyright owner(s) and only the copyright owner(s) — i.e., all of the contributors to that content — may license content under new terms or waive restrictions of the existing license. Contributor submissions of FDL licensed material will be deleted without notice.

WikiPOBia, however, reserves the right, at the sole discretion of the administrators, to include material licensed under the FDL on WikiPOBia. This material will typically be limited to help and policy documents and will be clearly labeled as being under the terms of the FDL using a banner that will appear following the text of the article or media description and similar to the following notice, which is provided here for illustration purposes only: ________________________________________

This ------- is licensed under the GNU FDL License (http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html) and is not available for use under the terms of the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 2.0 License (see Copyrights for details). ________________________________________ Based on: http://www.example.com/examples/example.html

Any material on WikiPOBia so labeled is available for use under the terms of the FDL and not under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 License. The inclusion of FDL material does not affect the licensing of other material on WikiPOBia and the availability of material on WikiPOBia under the terms of the FDL is limited to articles and media so labeled.

For Copyright Owners

If you believe your work has been infringed by inclusion in WikiPOBia, notify us by sending an email to WikiPOBia-Copyrights@HMSSurprise.org. Please include links to any pages you believe contain infringing content and some evidence to support your claim of infringement. For supported claims where the content is not being appropriately used under fair use, we will remove the content in question from WikiPOBia as quickly as possible.
